Dr. Sebastian Molin serves as Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Department at the Department of Functional Materials Engineering within the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics at Gdańsk University of Technology. His research focuses on advanced materials for energy conversion systems, particularly solid oxide cells and fuel cells.
His research interests center on protective coatings for metallic interconnects in solid oxide cells, with specialization in spinel-based oxide materials including Mn-Cu-Fe-O systems. His work addresses critical challenges in high-temperature oxidation resistance, chromium migration inhibition, and electrical conductivity optimization for next-generation energy technologies.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on sustainable alternatives to cobalt-based coatings, with emphasis on copper-manganese ferrite spinels. His research spans materials synthesis, protective coating deposition techniques (including spray pyrolysis and electrophoretic deposition), microstructure modeling, and full cell performance evaluation.
Molin leads several significant research projects including Sea4Volt (seawater electrolysis using AEM technology), DEMETRA (defective metal oxides for piezoelectrics), and MSµSOFC (micro-scale solid oxide fuel cells). These projects demonstrate his leadership in both fundamental materials research and applied clean energy technologies, with substantial funding from Horizon Europe and other international programs.
