Pinelopi Kapitsinou, MD, is an Associate Professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, specializing in Nephrology and Hypertension. Her research focuses on hypoxic signaling mechanisms in kidney injury and repair, particularly the role of the PHD/HIF axis in modulating responses to ischemic acute kidney injury. She is affiliated with the Feinberg Cardiovascular and Renal Research Institute and the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS).
- Education: MD from National and Kapodestrian University of Athens (2000); Intern, Jacobi Medical Center/AECOM (2004); Resident, Jacobi Medical Center/AECOM (2006); Fellow, University of Pennsylvania (2008); Postdoctoral Fellow, Vanderbilt University (2011).
Her expertise spans hypoxia, vascular biology, and translational approaches to kidney disease, with a focus on molecular mechanisms linking hypoxic signaling to chronic kidney disease progression. She contributes to editorial and advisory roles in nephrology and physiology societies and serves on committees for scientific conferences and education initiatives.
- Scientific Awards: Outstanding Young Investigator Award (2016).
