Pinar Selek is a sociologist, writer, and activist affiliated with Université Côte d'Azur in France, where she lectures in Sociology and Political Science. Her research focuses on marginalized groups, anti-militarism, feminist movements, and Kurdish rights. A political refugee in France since 2011, she has been targeted by Turkey’s judiciary for over 27 years, including four acquittals and ongoing trials. Her activism spans human rights advocacy, anti-war campaigns, and solidarity with minorities. She co-founded the feminist collective Amargi and publishes in academic journals like Amaragi. Awards include the 2019 Mediterranean Culture Prize. Her work intersects with global struggles against structural violence and authoritarianism.
Education: PhD in Sociology from Université de Strasbourg (2014), DEA in Sociology (1997), BSc in Sociology from Mimar Sinan University (Istanbul, 1995). Key publications include Parce qu’ils sont arméniens (2015) and Le Chaudron Militaire Turc (2025). She co-directs the Observatory of Migrations in Alpes-Maritimes and has been a vocal critic of Turkey’s judicial harassment. International solidarity networks and academic institutions globally support her fight for academic freedom.
