Ekaterina Nechaeva is a Professor of History at Université de Lille's Faculty of Humanities, where she coordinates the EX-PATRIA research project on conflicts, contacts, and mobility between Rome and Iran in Late Antiquity. Her work examines migration, dissidence, and cross-border networks through interdisciplinary methodologies including prosopography and spatial analysis.
Her research focuses on diplomatic systems, defection laws, and imperial representation in the 4th-6th centuries. Recent publications explore treaty negotiations, intelligence operations, and the socio-legal dimensions of border crossings. Her EX-PATRIA initiative, supported by a €250k grant, advances understanding of identity formation in transimperial contexts.
She teaches courses on Late Antique borders and nomadic cultures, supervises graduate projects, and co-organizes international conferences on Byzantine diplomacy. Nechaeva also contributes to digital prosopography initiatives mapping global migration patterns.
