Pietro Orlando is a Researcher in Geomatics at the University of Palermo's Engineering department. He holds a Ph.D. in Geodetic and Topographic Sciences from University of Naples 'Parthenope' (2004) and a Civil Engineering degree from University of Palermo (2000). His office is located on the second floor of the Faculty of Engineering building.
Research integrates geospatial technologies including GIS, remote sensing, digital photogrammetry, and hyperspectral imaging for applications in cultural heritage documentation, urban heat island analysis, and environmental monitoring. He has developed methodologies for automatic classification of satellite imagery and integrated GPS/INS systems.
Publications demonstrate interdisciplinary applications combining geomatics with urban planning and environmental science. Recent work includes seismic design reviews while earlier research focused on thermal remote sensing of urban environments.
Orlando teaches courses in Cartography, GIS, and Architectural Surveying Techniques. He has supervised graduate theses on urban energy planning and illegal building detection but no specific student names are provided.
