Pietra Candela is an Associate Professor in the neuroscience section at the University of Artois, France. She holds a Laurea (Master of Research) from the University of Palermo and a PhD from the University of Artois (2010), followed by postdoctoral research at INSERM's Jean Perrin Faculty. Her research focuses on Alzheimer's disease mechanisms and the role of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), particularly transcytosis pathways involving LDL and amyloid-β peptides. She teaches cellular/molecular biology and animal physiology.
Education:
- Master of Research, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Palermo, 2006
- PhD in Neuroscience, University of Artois, 2010
Research Interests: Investigates BBB pathophysiology in Alzheimer's disease, LRP1 receptor function in cerebral amyloid-β metabolism, and in vitro BBB models. Specializes in transcytosis mechanisms and lipid-protein interactions at the BBB.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Blood-Brain Barrier Laboratory at the Jean Perrin University Faculty, collaborating with INSERM researchers.
