Pieter Gautier is a Full Professor of Economics at the School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and an Economics Research Fellow at Tinbergen Institute. He holds a PhD from VU Amsterdam (1997) and has held visiting positions at Georgetown University and MIT. His research focuses on search and matching models in labor, housing, and marriage markets, school assignment mechanisms, and competing mechanisms. He is a fellow at CEPR, CES/Ifo, and IZA, and co-founder of the SaM (Search and Matching) network. He served as an associate editor for the Journal of the European Economic Association (2008–2015) and has advised the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis on matching mechanisms for education and healthcare.
