Pieter Broucke is a Professor in the Department of History of Art & Architecture at Middlebury College, where he has been since 1995. His expertise lies in ancient art and architectural history, particularly the intersection of Greek and Roman architecture. He holds a Professional Degree in Architecture from Ghent University (Belgium), an M.A. in Archaeology from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in History of Art and Architecture from Yale University. His research includes studies on the Temple of Olympian Zeus at Agrigento, Sicily.
He teaches courses such as World Architecture, pre-modern and Curatorial Practicum: Piranesi, emphasizing global pre-modern architectural developments and the works of Giovanni Battista Piranesi. His publications include a monograph on Charles Robert Cockerell's architectural explorations and numerous articles on ancient architecture and sculpture.
