Piers J. Hale is the Deisenroth Presidential Professor at the Department of the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences, The University of Oklahoma. His research explores how life sciences have shaped human self-conception historically, particularly through evolutionary biology's social and political dimensions.

His scholarly work spans evolutionary theory's cultural implications, biomedical/environmental ethics, gender studies, and science in fiction. Notably, he co-edited Evolution Before Darwin (2025) and authored Political Descent (2014), examining how pre-Darwinian evolutionary ideas influenced Victorian political and moral thought.
