Piers Grey is a Lecturer in Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the School of Psychology, Sport and Sensory Science. He joined ARU in 2021 while completing his PhD in Psychology, which he earned in 2023 under the supervision of Dr. Jane Aspell, Dr. Ruth Ford, and Dr. Steven Stagg. His doctoral research examined interoceptive processing, emotional experience, and empathy in adults with autism, with findings suggesting behavioral differences in autism may link more closely to alexithymia (emotion conceptualization difficulties) than to autism itself.

Research Interests: Piers investigates interoception (internal body sensation awareness), alexithymia, theory of mind, empathy, and self-other distinction in autistic individuals. His work aims to clarify how sensory and emotional processing differences influence social cognition in autism spectrum disorders.
Teaching: He instructs modules across multiple programs, including BSc Psychology, BSc Psychology with Criminology/Clinical Psychology, and MSc Psychology (Conversion). Courses cover foundational topics (Mind & Behaviour, Social Psychology) and research methods (Statistical Thinking, Qualitative Methods).
