Dr. Piers Fleming is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of East Anglia (UEA), where he has been since 2006. He serves as Teaching Director and holds external roles, including External Examiner for BSc Psychology at Heriot-Watt University (2020–2024). His expertise spans risk perception, decision-making under uncertainty, and cyberpsychology, with a focus on real-world applications.
Education: BSc (Hons) from the University of Leeds, MSc and PhD in Psychology from Lancaster University. He is a Chartered Psychologist (C.Psychol.) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Research Interests: Dr. Fleming investigates how cognition, emotion, and individual differences influence risk-related decisions. Key areas include cyberpsychology, risk communication, and online hazards. He employs quantitative methods like psychophysical and experimental techniques, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration.
Grants and Projects: He has led projects funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (e.g., 'The Value of Personal Data Privacy') and the Nuffield Foundation, exploring topics like unlawful file-sharing and social desirability bias.
