Pierre Philip is Professor of Sleep Medicine at the University of Bordeaux, where he leads the university's Sleep Medicine Department and the digital axis of the USR CNRS SanPsy 3413 research unit. He is Associate Director for Clinical Research at Labex Brain, Coordinator of the Sleep Research Group, and Coordinator of the Talisment University Hospital Federation. He also founded the startup My-Med-A to commercialize conversational agents developed through Equipex Phenovirt.
His research focuses on clinical and digital aspects of sleep and mental health. Key areas include vulnerability to sleep deprivation, digital diagnostic tools such as conversational agents (e.g., Julia, a virtual doctor for addiction diagnosis), and non-pharmacological treatments like neurofeedback and cognitive-behavioral therapy. He is also investigating human factors in autonomous vehicles, particularly the ability of drivers to regain control after distraction.
His recent publications highlight trends in digital psychiatry, sleep-related accident risk, and public understanding of sleep disorders. These works span disciplines such as artificial intelligence in healthcare, transportation safety, and mental health innovation, with a strong emphasis on translational research and real-world applications.

Professor Philip actively supervises research and leads multiple large-scale projects, including PEPR PROPSY, which aims to identify risk factors in major psychiatric disorders (bipolar, depression, schizophrenia, autism) to develop a new biomedical sector in mental health. He has secured funding through national research initiatives and industry collaborations, notably with the PSA Group on autonomous driving challenges. His work bridges clinical practice, academic research, and technological entrepreneurship.
He leads the digital research axis within the SanPsy 3413 unit and is central to the development of virtual medical agents. His lab focuses on integrating AI into mental health diagnostics and treatment, with an emphasis on trust, usability, and clinical validation. The startup My-Med-A is a direct extension of this lab’s innovation, aiming to bring research-based conversational agents to market.
