His research focuses on Italian literary history from the 14th to 21st centuries, with particular emphasis on Enlightenment Italy. His work examines manuscript traditions, literary networks, and the development of the Italian novel. Musitelli serves on several editorial boards including the Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment collection, the 'Bibliothèque italienne' collection at Classiques Garnier, and the journal Laboratoire italien. He has received significant research funding through the IUF for his project 'The Italian novel in the European Enlightenment: genesis, circulation and reception of an obscure genre' (2021-2026).
Musitelli's publications include critical editions, scholarly monographs, and numerous articles analyzing Enlightenment writers, particularly the Verri brothers and Cesare Beccaria. His recent work explores the intersections between textual criticism, manuscript studies, and the history of literary networks in 18th century Europe. His scholarship demonstrates an interdisciplinary approach that combines philological rigor with broader cultural analysis of Enlightenment thought and its European reception.
