Pierre-Jean Corringer is a Research Director (DR1) at CNRS and leads the Channel-Receptors research unit at Institut Pasteur in Paris, where he has directed research since 2013. Previously, he held positions as Director of a G5 research group (2007-2012) and CNRS researcher (1994-2006) in Prof. J.P. Changeux's unit. He holds a PhD from Université Paris V and completed postdoctoral training at Sussex University.
His research focuses on structural and functional studies of pentameric ligand-gated ion channels, with expertise in:
- Mechanisms of allosteric modulation by drugs and neurotransmitters
- X-ray crystallography of membrane proteins
- Evolutionary relationships between prokaryotic and eukaryotic ion channels
- Neuropharmacology of anesthetic compounds
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on ion channel structure-function relationships using structural biology techniques, with recent work emphasizing anesthetic mechanisms and conformational dynamics. Key themes include gating mechanisms, allosteric modulation, and prokaryotic-eukaryotic channel comparisons.
Awards:
- Academia Europaea Membership (2014)
- Andrée et René Duquesnes Award (2013)
- Pasteur Vallery-Radot Award (2009)
He has supervised 6 PhD students and 5 postdoctoral fellows, and evaluates grants for agencies including ANR, AFM, and BBSRC. Leads the Channel-Receptors unit investigating neurotransmitter receptors using structural, biochemical, and electrophysiological approaches.
