Pierre Guibentif is a Full Professor in the Department of Sociology at ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), where he also serves as an Integrated Researcher at DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte, the Center for Studies on Socioeconomic Change and Territory. His academic work is deeply rooted in the sociology of law, governance, citizenship, and legal subjectivity.

His recent work addresses the challenges posed by crises like the Covid-19 pandemic to the humanities and social sciences (SHS), advocating for reflective, internationalized, and socially engaged research.
Guibentif’s publications span book chapters, editorials, and scientific communications, often appearing in venues such as Droit et société, Oñati Socio-Legal Series, and RCSL newsletters. His recent articles reflect a strong thematic focus on institutional development (e.g., MSH Paris-Saclay), legal agency, and the global sociology of law. He has also contributed to discussions on open science, socio-legal trajectories in Europe, and the future of legal journals.
He has held editorial and leadership roles in academic networks, including the Research Committee on Sociology of Law (RCSL) and the MSH Paris-Saclay. He has participated in numerous international conferences and has co-edited volumes on interdisciplinary transitions and socio-legal theory.
