Molinelli's research spans historical pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and discourse analysis with particular focus on Latin-Italian language evolution. Her work examines pragmatic markers, demonstratives, and discourse structures across historical periods, analyzing cyclical patterns in linguistic development. She investigates how cultural products influence linguistic changes and explores sociopolitical dimensions of language use, including Fascist-era address forms and contemporary inclusive writing practices.
Her 75+ publications reveal consistent focus on diachronic pragmatics, with recent work analyzing demonstrative renewal (2025), discourse marker typology (2024), and cultural-linguistic interactions (2024). The publications show methodological diversity combining corpus analysis, historical comparison, and sociolinguistic theory, with increasing attention to applied aspects like inclusive communication (2024) and neurodiversity considerations.
Molinelli actively contributes to academic evaluation as an ANVUR expert and has served on evaluation committees for universities including Cagliari (2015-2022) and Catania (2021-2025). Her international engagement includes Visiting Professorship at Kazakh Ablai Khan University (2014) and participation in numerous selection committees for academic positions.
She advises PhD candidates through the Teaching Committee of the PhD Program in Philological and Linguistic Studies and contributes to institutional development as member of the Bergamo in History Foundation Board (since 2023). Her administrative leadership spans university governance (Academic Senate 1993-1999, Board of Directors 1998-1999, 2002-2005) and specialized centers like the Language Competence Center (2016-2021).
