Giulia Tonani is a Lecturer and PhD candidate at the Institute of Italian Studies, part of the Department of Linguistics and Literary Studies within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Since August 2021, she has been working on her dissertation analyzing textual and pragmatic characteristics of Swiss Italian sentences under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Angela Ferrari. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Bergamo and completed her Master's degree in Theoretical, Applied, and Modern Language Linguistics at the University of Pavia in 2021.
Her research focuses on textual linguistics, pragmatics, and the functional analysis of language structures in communication. She teaches Proseminar in Introduction to Italian Linguistics at the University of Basel and maintains an office in Maiengasse 51, Basel, with appointments available upon request.
