Pia Ädelroth

Pia Ädelroth is a Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University. Her research focuses on the structure-function relationships, assembly, cross-reactivity, energy conservation, and evolutionary pathways of nitric oxide and oxygen-reducing terminal oxidases. These enzymes play critical roles in cellular respiration and drug development targeting bacterial pathogens like Helicobacter pylori.

• Research Interests:
  • Elucidating mechanisms of proton transfer and energy conservation in heme-copper oxidases (HCuOs)
  • Investigating bacterial nitric oxide reductases (NOR) in denitrification processes
  • Structural and functional analysis of cytochrome bd oxidases for antibiotic development
  • Collaborative work on respiratory supercomplexes in Mycobacterium smegmatis with the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation
