Phyllis E. Griffin is a Professor of Voice and Speech at The Theatre School, DePaul University. A Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner® and Certified Lessac Teacher, she has trained with leading voice experts including Richard Armstrong of the Roy Hart Theatre, Patsy Rodenburg, and Kristin Linklater.
Her research focuses on voice pedagogy, dialect acquisition, and somatic integration for performers. She has served as vocal coach for Goodman Theatre productions (Gem of the Ocean, King Hedley II), Shakespeare on the Green's Othello, Disney's The Lion King auditions, and Joan Plowright in Dennis The Menace, while narrating documentaries for PBS/NPR.
Professor Griffin directs contemporary theatre at DePaul, specializing in African American works like August Wilson's Two Trains Running and Ntozake Shange's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide. Her teaching emphasizes physical-vocal alignment through Feldenkrais techniques to prepare students for theatre, film, and voice-over careers.
