Phuong Chung Nguyen

Phuong Chung Nguyen is a Lecturer in Vietnamese and Director of the Vietnamese Language Program at Columbia University's Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures. She oversees language instruction and program coordination, with a focus on Vietnamese language education for specialized audiences.

Education:

• MA: Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Hanoi National University (2007)
• Diploma: Teaching English as a Second Language, Hanoi University (2003)
• BA: English Language and Culture, Hanoi University (2000)

Research Interests: Specialized areas include curriculum design for Vietnamese language instruction, assessment methodologies, and materials development. She has created pedagogical resources such as Survival Vietnamese Handout and Listening and Note-taking for Advanced Level.

Professional Experience: From 2008–2018, she served as Vietnamese Language Coordinator for the U.S. Embassy's Post Language Program in Hanoi. Previously, she led language programs at Hanoi University and taught Vietnamese to expatriates across embassies and organizations.

Labs/Teams: Oversees the Vietnamese Language Program infrastructure at Columbia.
