Thu-Ba Nguyen Hoai

Thu-Ba Nguyen Hoai is an Instructor of Vietnamese Language and Culture at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) since 2006. She holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and a Doctorate in Linguistics from Seoul National University (Korea). Her research and publications focus on Vietnamese language studies, heritage language pedagogy, and language acquisition.

Dr. Nguyen has contributed to academic publications such as the Vietnamese Grammar Dictionary (co-authored), Vietnamese in Industrialization and Modernization (co-authored), and the Activity Section of the Vietnamese Concise Dictionary. Her work bridges linguistic theory and practical pedagogy, emphasizing cultural and historical contexts of the Vietnamese language.

Her research interests include sociolinguistic aspects of Vietnamese, language preservation in diasporic communities, and innovative teaching methodologies for heritage languages.
