Professor Phillippa Diedrichs is a leading academic and researcher in body image, appearance psychology, and mental health at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol. She holds a PhD in Health Psychology and leads the Centre for Appearance Research, focusing on interventions to combat appearance-based stereotypes and promote body confidence across global populations. Her work spans academic, corporate, and governmental collaborations with organizations like Dove, UNICEF, and Nike.
Key research areas include body image in sports, social media impacts, weight stigma, and culturally adapted interventions in countries like India, Indonesia, and Brazil. She has pioneered scalable tools such as the Body Confidence Book, Body Confident Sport, and the Real Beauty Prompt Playbook for generative AI. Over 100 million people have accessed her evidence-based programs through partnerships with Meta, Instagram, and Girl Guides.
