Phillip Primeau is a Contract Instructor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Carleton University. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from Carleton University, and a B. Soc.Sc. (Hons.) in Criminology/Public Administration from the University of Ottawa. His research focuses on urban governance, philanthrocapitalism, resilience theory, and the historical and contemporary intersections of science and technology. He collaborates on the Recipro: The History of International and Humanitarian Aid project through the Shared Online Projects Initiative (SOPI) with the University of Ottawa.
Primeau is dedicated to innovative academic dissemination, producing podcasts like The Department Podcast to engage broader audiences. His teaching emphasizes storytelling and critical thinking, with courses such as Popular Culture in the Digital Age and Creative Sociology. He co-leads the Students as Partners Program grant with Kiran Niet, developing media toolkits for pedagogical use.
His work bridges academia and community, prioritizing accessible scholarship through audio storytelling and participatory outreach.
