Dan Hawes is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Information Technology at Carleton University, where he explores the design of immersive learning experiences aimed at reducing racial barriers and creating positive psychological effects. He also teaches courses in game design, digital storytelling, and creative company management at Toronto Metropolitan University.

His research focuses on blending technology, design, and narrative to create transformative VR/AR applications for education and social impact. He has pioneered AI and VR innovations and authored the novel The Billion Dollar Metaverse Challenge, with future books AI for Everyone (May 2025) and Intelligent Worlds (Sept 2025) in progress. His work extends to creating 12 TV series, 50+ games, and 9 films, notably co-creating Chilly Beach (1997), a pioneering web-to-TV series.
