Phillip Melton

Phillip Melton is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the School of Population and Global Health, University of Western Australia. He holds a Research Fellow academic rank and specializes in statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology. His research focuses on complex disease genetics, epigenetics, and family-based genetic studies.

He has been involved in multiple grants including funding from the National Health & Medical Research Council, National Institute of Health, and Royal Perth Hospital Medical Research Foundation. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being (SDG 3).

Key research interests include DNA methylation patterns, cardiovascular genetics, and the genetic epidemiology of conditions like pre-eclampsia and musculoskeletal pain. Recent work explores intergenerational health effects and the epigenetic pathways linking developmental origins to cardiometabolic diseases.

Melton has contributed to over 118 research outputs, including reviews on somatic copy number variations and original studies on burn injury genetics. He collaborates widely, with international teams investigating topics like lipid metabolism and liver disease epidemiology.

He previously held a postdoctoral position at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute and teaches the Fundamentals of Genetic Epidemiology. His work emphasizes translational research with clinical utility in personalized medicine.
