Philippe Gilchrist is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences at Macquarie University, where he serves as Director of Education. He is affiliated with the Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre and the Smart Green Cities Research Centre, demonstrating his commitment to interdisciplinary research. His academic journey includes significant positions at McGill University and the University of Cambridge before joining Macquarie University in 2018.
Dr. Gilchrist holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from McGill University (2015), an MA in Counselling Psychology (2006), and a BA in Psychology (2004). His professional credentials include clinical registration across Canada, Australia, and dual registration in the UK covering both Clinical and Counseling Psychology. He previously served as Director of Clinical Psychology from 2019-2024 before assuming his current leadership role.
His primary research focuses on the intersection of Clinical Psychology and healthcare settings, with particular emphasis on stress, anxiety, and cardiovascular psychophysiology. His signature work examines vasovagal reactions in blood donation contexts, extending to blood donor health, recruitment, and retention strategies. Additional research interests include anxiety disorders, blood-injection-injury fears, disgust, and embodied cognition.
