Prof. Dr. Philippe Depreux is a Professor of Medieval History at the University of Hamburg's Faculty of Humanities, specializing in the early and high Middle Ages. He leads the long-term Formulae-Litterae-Chartae project, focusing on editing and analyzing early medieval legal templates and manuscripts. His research explores Carolingian political structures, formulaic writing practices, and manuscript cultures. He is a member of the Hamburg Academy of Sciences and the Institut universitaire de France. Depreux holds a PhD from Paris IV and habilitation from Paris I, with prior professorships in Limoges and Tours. His work bridges history, philology, and legal studies, emphasizing the social and cultural networks of medieval Europe.
