His research focuses on vulnerable populations, higher education and professional trajectories, entry into adult life, and population migrations. He has led and contributed to numerous studies on student precariousness, graduate homelessness, and the impact of crises such as the 2008 financial crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic on vulnerable groups. His current research project, Handicovid (2023–2025), investigates how pandemic-related restrictions affected access to healthcare for people with disabilities, using both survey and administrative data.
The recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on demographic responses to social and health crises, particularly among youth and marginalized populations. His work combines quantitative demographic methods with sociological insights, often analyzing trajectories and transitions in education, employment, and residence. There is a clear geographic focus on France, including its overseas territories, as well as comparative European perspectives, especially on student mobility and same-sex unions.
Philippe Cordazzo actively supervises doctoral students and has coordinated major research publications, such as the 2019 volume "Parcours d'étudiants." His leadership roles include being Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and contributing to national and international demographic research networks.
