Patricia Zander is Director of the SAGE Laboratory (Sociétés, acteurs, gouvernement en Europe) at the University of Strasbourg, where she serves as a Senior Lecturer in Geography and Urban Planning. She is based at the MISHA – Interuniversity House of Human Sciences Alsace in Strasbourg. Her research is aligned with SAGE’s Axis 3: Territorial dynamics: population, city, nature.
Her research interests focus on territorial governance, urban planning, metropolitan dynamics, sustainability, and local democracy, particularly in transboundary European regions such as Strasbourg and the Upper Rhine. She investigates how cities and regions navigate challenges of metropolization, resilience, cultural diversity, and environmental sustainability through innovative governance models. Her work often emphasizes the role of territorial projects and collective identities in shaping spatial development.
Her recent publications span topics including urban resilience in Hamburg, eco-districts as democratic experiments in Strasbourg, and cross-border innovation in the Upper Rhine region. She has contributed to major academic volumes published by Routledge, Springer, and Presses Universitaires de Rennes, and has edited collective works on discovery and territorial development. Her research integrates perspectives from geography, political ecology, and environmental humanities.
She has presented her work at international conferences such as ICCCASU, Acfas Congress, and organized the 2019 Strasbourg conference 'Making the worlds known in discovery'. She teaches courses on territorial geography, planning methods, urban management in Europe, and territorial development.
