Dr. Philippa Yam is a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Science & Education at the University of Glasgow's School of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh in 1992, with an intercalated BSc in Veterinary Science. After an internship at Glasgow, she earned a PhD in the Medical Faculty and has been at Glasgow since 1998. Her roles include Chief Adviser of Studies, EMS Coordinator, and member of numerous committees (e.g., Admissions, Progress, Programme Board).
- Education: BVetMed from Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (1992), BSc Vet Sci Hons (intercalated), PhD in Medical Faculty.
- Research Interests: Small animal nutrition, obesity, physical activity, and translational health research. She produced the film 'Fat Dog Slim' to address canine obesity and advocates interdisciplinary collaboration.
Her research focuses on obesity pathogenesis, novel educational strategies, and animal welfare. Over 80 publications include studies on canine pseudopregnancy, raw diets, and activity monitoring via accelerometry. She has received grants from Petplan Charitable Trust, Scottish Society for the History of Medicine, and Carnegie Trust.
Teaching commitments span undergraduate (BVMS1-3) and postgraduate (MSc Nutrition) programs. She also contributed to the book *Glasgow Veterinary School, 1862-2012* celebrating the university's veterinary heritage.
