Dr. Philippa Derrington is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the MSc in Music Therapy at Queen Margaret University’s Division of Occupational Therapy & Arts Therapies. She is also an Associate member of the Centre for Applied Social Sciences. Her career spans clinical practice, academia, and advocacy in music therapy.

Philippa’s research focuses on music therapy interventions for adolescents with emotional and behavioral difficulties, marginalized youth, aphasia, and interdisciplinary approaches to mental health. Her work includes the groundbreaking PhD thesis Music Therapy for Youth at Risk: An Exploration of Clinical Practice Through Research and co-editing Music Therapy in Schools (Jessica Kingsley, 2012). She employs mixed-methods and interdisciplinary frameworks in her studies.
