Philipp Marten is a Researcher in the research group of Prof. Dr. Marc Stadtler at the Institute for Educational Research, Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Research, Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), a position he has held since October 2020. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of disinformation and misinformation, building resilience against false and misleading information, and developing extracurricular competencies.
His educational background includes:
- M.Sc. in Global Crime, Justice and Security from the University of Edinburgh (2012-2013)
- M.A. in International Relations from Jacobs University Bremen and the University of Bremen (2010-2012)
- B.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Osnabrück (2007-2010)
- Erasmus exchange student in Political Science at Vrije Universiteit Brussels (2009-2010)
Marten's research interests center on disinformation and misinformation, with a focus on how individuals and societies can develop resilience against false information. He also investigates the development of competencies outside formal educational settings. His work bridges educational research, psychology, and security studies, reflecting his interdisciplinary training.
He has been recognized with the following awards:

Marten is an active member of several academic societies, including the Society for Text & Discourse (ST&D), the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI), the Society for Empirical Educational Research (GEBF), and the German Psychological Society (DGPs).
