Philipp Kröger

Dr. Philipp Kröger is a Research Associate in the Chair of Contemporary History at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Siegen, where he contributes to research on 20th-century environmental and scientific history. His work is situated at the intersection of history, science and technology studies, and political ecology.

His research focuses on the history of environmental design, particularly the creation of artificial nature in post-war Germany. He examines how landscape planning, statistics, and biopolitical ideologies shaped nature conservation in both East and West Germany. His work also extends to the history of racial science, nationality statistics, and the role of data visualization in nationalist and colonial projects.

His recent publications and lectures reveal a strong trend toward interdisciplinary analysis of nature-making as a techno-scientific and socio-political process. Themes include renaturation, quarry lake ecosystems, data infrastructure in racialization, and the biopolitics of population management. He frequently presents at academic colloquia and conferences across Germany and internationally.
