Philip Schleifer

Philip Schleifer is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) within the International Relations Department. He teaches courses on International Political Economy at the LSE Summer School and is actively involved in the Sustainable RIO research project, funded by the EU FP7 Framework. This project is a collaboration between LSE, Sciences-Po Paris, and Free University Berlin.

Philip’s academic background includes a Master in International Relations (Distinction) from Free University Berlin, Humboldt University Berlin, and University of Potsdam, as well as a Bachelor in Political Science from University Bremen and studies in Political Philosophy at Université Vincenne-Saint-Denis Paris.

His research focuses on the institutional design of market-based mechanisms in private environmental governance, with a specific emphasis on accountability structures in multi-stakeholder certification schemes. His work examines institutional diffusion in bioenergy regulation and divergence in private environmental arrangements. This research is reflected in his contributions to the Global Climate Legislation Study, which audits climate-related legal frameworks across 66 countries.

Philip’s professional experience includes roles at the International Labour Organization (ILO) as a Carlo Schmid Fellow, the German Embassy in London, the Foundation pour la Recherche Stratégique (FRS) in Paris, and the Institute of Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS) in Bremen.
