Philip S. Wong is a Professor of Psychology at Long Island University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, where he also serves as Director of the Ph.D. Program in Clinical Psychology. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and holds a Sc.B. from Brown University.
Dr. Wong’s research focuses on the implicit emotional and motivational dimensions of personality and psychopathology, with clinical expertise in anxiety and affective disorders. His theoretical approach integrates psychodynamic and cognitive psychology, emphasizing contemporary ego-psychology, object relations, and self-psychology. He also explores ethnic minority and East Asian American experiences.
His recent publications span topics such as attachment anxiety, selfobject needs, and hedonic judgment, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to understanding personality, mental health, and cultural dynamics. Dr. Wong has contributed to journals like Psychoanalytic Psychology and Psychiatry Research.
