Geoffrey D. LIU Goodman is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Long Island University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a licensed clinical and school psychologist with over two decades of private practice experience. His work bridges psychoanalytic theory, play therapy, and cross-cultural research in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Education: B.S. from MIT (1983), M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University (1986), Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern University (1991)
Dr. Goodman specializes in Attachment Research, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Mentalization-Based Therapy for children and adults. His research explores the intergenerational transmission of psychopathology and school readiness in Uganda, integrating quantitative methods with psychoanalytic frameworks. Recent publications highlight his work on child-centered play therapy and sex addiction treatment.
Scientific awards include the 2016 Phi Delta Kappa Lifetime Research Award, 2014 Fulbright Scholarship, and 2006 Long Island University Trustees Award. He also co-authored the Traditional Plumsock Prize-winning book The Internal World and Attachment (2002).
