Philip Resnik is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Maryland, College Park, and holds affiliate appointments in the Department of Computer Science and the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS). He is a member of the Maryland Language Science Center and leads research at the intersection of computational linguistics, mental health analytics, and computational social science. His work spans natural language processing (NLP), psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics, with applications in healthcare, political science, and neuroscience.
Research Interests: Computational linguistics, machine learning, mental health analytics (e.g., suicide risk prediction), political communication, and neuroimaging of language processing. Resnik has pioneered methods for analyzing language in clinical contexts, such as identifying mental health signals in social media and EHR data, and has contributed to foundational NLP techniques like topic modeling and sentiment analysis.
