Xiaodi Wu

Xiaodi Wu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Fellow of the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS). He also serves as an Amazon Visiting Academic. His research focuses on bridging quantum computing theory with practical applications, including computational models for quantum devices and efficient systems for near-term and long-term quantum machines. He holds appointments in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

Education: Ph.D., Theoretical Computer Science (2013) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; B.S., Mathematics and Physics (2008) from Tsinghua University's Academic Talent Program.

Research interests include quantum computation, algorithms, programming languages, and machine learning. His work integrates theoretical computer science with quantum information science to advance scalable quantum systems and address hardware limitations.

Awards: 2023 Sloan Research Fellowship, 2021 AFOSR YIP Award, 2021 ACM SIGPLAN POPL Distinguished Paper Award, 2020 NSF CAREER Award, and 2018 NSF CISE CRII Award. He contributed to a $7.5M MURI grant to develop quantum random access memory (QRAM) architectures.

Students advised include PhD candidates Yingkang Cao, Connor Clayton, Joseph Li, Suying Liu, Yufan Zheng, and Master's student Ethan Hickman. His collaborations span institutions like Yale University and the University of Chicago. He is affiliated with QuICS and UMIACS, focusing on interdisciplinary advancements in quantum information and computing.
