Philip Power is a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Davis, in the Department of Chemistry. He leads the Power Lab, focusing on the synthesis of molecules with novel bonding and reactivity. His research explores new types of chemical bonds in main group and transition metal compounds.
Education includes a Ph.D. from the University of Sussex (1977) and a B.A. from the University of Dublin (1974). His postdoctoral fellowship was at Stanford University (1978-1980).
Research interests center on inorganic and organometallic chemistry, particularly bonding in heavy elements, small molecule activation, and catalytic cycles. His work has enabled fundamental reactions of hydrogen, ammonia, and ethylene under ambient conditions.
Recent articles focus on characterizing novel inorganic compounds and exploring dispersion forces in molecular stability. Trends include heavy element bonding, low-valent species, and catalytic applications.
