Professor Simon Aldridge FRS is a leading academic in Main Group Chemistry at the University of Oxford. He holds dual roles as Professor of Main Group Chemistry and Director of the OxICFM CDT (Oxford Centre for Doctoral Training in Inorganic Chemistry for Functional Materials). His primary affiliation is with the Department of Chemistry and The Queen's College.
Research interests focus on designing Main Group compounds (Group 13/14 elements) for small molecule binding/activation, catalysis, and reactivity exploration. Key themes include frustrated Lewis pairs, metal-ligand cooperativity, and novel bonding motifs. His group has pioneered studies on aluminyl anions, beryllium chemistry, and CO₂ activation systems.
Publications from 2025 highlight advancements in silane isomerization, ammonia activation, and metathesis-driven cumulene chemistry. His work emphasizes practical applications in catalytic systems and material design. The Aldridge Group operates within the broader framework of the OxICFM CDT, training next-generation researchers in functional inorganic materials.
