Philip Pauerstein, MD, PhD, is an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. He holds a BA from Rice University (2008), an MD and PhD from Stanford University (2017), and completed his residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation at UCSF. His research focuses on pediatric hematology/oncology, cell transplantation, and pancreatic islet development. Key areas include graft-versus-host disease in haploidentical transplants, genetic regulation of islet development, and synthetic immunotherapy. His work bridges molecular biology, developmental biology, and clinical translation.
- Education: Rice University (BA, 2008), Stanford University (MD/PhD, 2017)
- Training: UCSF Residency (Pediatrics, 2020), UCSF Fellowship (Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT, 2024)
Research interests include pediatric transplantation outcomes, pancreatic islet morphogenesis, and engineering synthetic T-cells for immunoprotection. His publications in Science, PNAS, and Development highlight contributions to cell biology, gene therapy, and developmental mechanisms. Collaborations with co-authors like Christopher Dvorak, Janel Long-Boyle, and Wendell Lim reflect interdisciplinary engagement. While no awards are explicitly listed, his work on CLARITY tissue clearing and islet development demonstrates impactful translational efforts.
