Andrew Posselt, MD, PhD, is a Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He serves as co-director of the Pancreatic Islet Transplantation Program at UCSF Medical Center and specializes in adult and pediatric kidney, liver, and pancreas transplantation, as well as laparoscopic and open bariatric surgery. His clinical and research focus includes pancreatic islet cell transplantation for type 1 diabetes, mechanisms of transplant rejection and tolerance, and metabolic consequences of bariatric surgery.

Posselt's research explores islet transplantation for diabetes reversal, immunosuppressive protocols, and bone metabolism changes post-bariatric surgery. His work includes clinical trials on silicon nanopore membranes for islet encapsulation and metabolic optimization in transplant candidates. He supervises residents and fellows in transplant services and has contributed to over 30 publications in transplantation and metabolic surgery. Key grants include NIH funding for islet transplantation (R01DK128325, R01DK098581) and bariatric surgery outcomes (R21DK078702).
