Monzr M. Al Malki

Monzr M. Al Malki, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Hematology & Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation at City of Hope, serving as Director of the Unrelated Donor BMT Program, Haploidentical Transplant Program, and Medical Director of the City of Hope Histocompatibility Laboratory. He specializes in hematology-oncology with a focus on leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). His research emphasizes improving access to transplantation for underserved populations, particularly through alternative donor strategies and reducing GVHD risks via T-cell depletion techniques.

Dr. Al Malki earned his M.D. from Damascus University School of Medicine (2003) and completed residency at Cleveland Clinic’s Huron Hospital. He holds fellowships from Boston University School of Medicine (hematology/oncology) and City of Hope (hematopoietic stem cell transplantation). Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology, he is a member of the American Society of Hematology and American Society of Clinical Oncology.

His research interests include mismatched donor transplantation, cord blood transplants, and optimizing outcomes for older patients and minorities. Key published work explores natalizumab for GVHD treatment, iron overload in cord blood recipients, and haploidentical transplant efficacy compared to matched donors.

Dr. Al Malki has received multiple teaching awards from City of Hope and was honored as Mentor of the Year (2017). His clinical roles include leadership in transplant programs and histocompatibility laboratory oversight, reflecting his dual expertise in patient care and laboratory medicine.
