Philip P. Arnold

Philip P. Arnold is Associate Professor in the Department of Religion at Syracuse University and a core faculty member of Native American and Indigenous Studies. He is the founding director of the Skä·noñh—Great Law of Peace Center (2012–2015), a collaborative initiative with the Onondaga Nation and regional partners. Arnold also serves as President of the Indigenous Values Initiative and organized the Doctrine of Discovery Study Group in 2007.

Research Focus:

• Indigenous traditions and Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) culture
• Doctrine of Discovery and its legacy
• Colonial impacts on Native peoples
• Sacred landscapes and cultural politics

His work repurposes colonial sites, such as the former "French Fort" on Onondaga Lake, to center Indigenous narratives and values.

Arnold is a founding member of NOON (Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation) and collaborates with regional educational and cultural institutions to advance Indigenous education and advocacy.
