Philip McCosker is the Associate Head of School (Quality and Accreditation) at Coventry University's School of Economics, Finance and Accounting since 2020. He previously held roles as Associate Professor in Accounting and Course Director for undergraduate programs. His academic background includes a PhD from Coventry University (2017), an MBA from the University of Birmingham, and a BSc (Hons) Economics from the University of Salford.
Research interests focus on financial reporting, sport finance, and regulatory frameworks in professional sports. His doctoral thesis analyzed financial performance of English Premier League clubs (2004–2015) under UEFA Financial Fair Play Rules. Recent work includes a chapter on financial statement interpretation in human resource management contexts.
Professional accolades include the CIPFA National Student Forum Excellence in Education Award (2008, 2009) and Senior Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy. He has served as an examiner for CIPFA's professional qualifications and external examiner at the University of Worcester.
Teaching expertise spans undergraduate/postgraduate modules in financial accounting, emphasizing real-world case studies (e.g., Next, Tesco, Manchester United). Prior to academia, he worked in public practice accounting and held senior trainer roles at CIPFA.
