Dr. Philip Matthews is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Philosophy & Theology at the University of Notre Dame Australia. Previously, he served as Director of the Bioethics Teaching and Research Unit at Curtin University and edited the international journal Faith and Freedom. His academic interests span moral philosophy, professional ethics, epistemology, and the philosophy of science, with a recent focus on cosmology and amateur astronomy. He has taught at Murdoch University and Edith Cowan University and contributed to ethics committees and boards such as the Reproductive Technology Council of WA and Sussex Street Community Law Service.
His research explores pragmatic approaches to justice, pacifism, and bioethical dilemmas. Notable works include Faith and Freedom: Christian Ethics in a Pluralist Society (2004) and chapters on teleological pragmatism and Aristotle’s ethics. His publications address topics like cloning ethics, end-of-life care, and the ethical dimensions of terrorism responses.
