Philip Goldswain is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Architecture at the UWA Design School, part of The University of Western Australia. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Melbourne, focusing on the architectural history of Kalgoorlie and Boulder during the gold rush era. His research integrates architectural theory, urban history, and photography, particularly exploring the interplay between mining settlements, urban development, and visual representation.
Goldswain’s expertise spans architectural design, the history of photography in urban contexts, and Western Australian architectural heritage. He has led projects such as the 'Storm Tossed on the Billows of the Boom' study on Kalgoorlie’s spatial histories and collaborated on the UWA/UQ Bilateral Research Award examining goldfields and arid lands. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and cultural preservation.
