Philip Gaißer

Philip Gaißer is a Professor of Art Fundamentals/Photography at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle since 2017, previously serving as substitute professor from 2016. He studied at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (2001–2007). His artistic practice focuses on photography and interdisciplinary exhibition design, with works featured globally including the Albertinum (Dresden), Camera Austria (Graz), and Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof. He co-founded the ATP Bahrenfeld exhibition space in Hamburg (2012).

Research Interests: Explores photography’s intersection with materiality and conceptual frameworks. Recent work investigates taxonomic systems (e.g., 'Ants 1'), spatial narratives ('Alma'), and collaborative exhibition formats. His practice bridges artistic production with curatorial experimentation, emphasizing site-specific installations and publication-based art.

Recent Trends in Publications: Focus on hybrid formats merging photography with book arts and institutional critique. The 2014–2015 publications establish his signature style blending scientific rigor with poetic abstraction.
