معرفی
Philip Diamond is a Professor of Astrophysics in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manchester and serves as the Director-General of the Square Kilometre Array. His research utilizes radio interferometry to study star formation, evolved stars, starburst galaxies, and masers using facilities like MERLIN and VLBI.
Education includes:
- BSc (Hons), Physics with Astrophysics, University of Leeds, 1979
- Diploma for Advanced Studies in Science, Manchester University, 1980
- PhD, Radio Astronomy, Manchester University, 1982
Research focuses on observational astrophysics with emphasis on high-resolution radio techniques for probing stellar and galactic phenomena. Recent publications center on large-scale astronomical surveys and polarization studies of maser emissions.
Supervised PhD students work on VLBI data reduction techniques, interstellar medium studies, and high-frequency polarimetry. Leads the Astronomy and Astrophysics Theory Group and oversees global Square Kilometre Array telescope development.
