Dr. Philip Camp is a Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Lubbock Christian University (LCU). He also serves as Director of Choirs and Director of the award-winning contemporary a cappella ensemble, Best Friends. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Fine Arts (Choral Conducting) from Texas Tech University (2002), a Master of Music in Choral Music from Arizona State University (1992), and a Bachelor of Music Education from Abilene Christian University (1990).
His research and professional interests focus on choral conducting, ensemble performance, and music education. Under his direction, LCU choirs have performed extensively across the U.S., Ireland, Australia, and Eastern Europe. Notable performances include collaborations with the Lubbock Chorale on Handel’s Messiah (2024) and recordings such as Best Friends’ On Our Way (2024). He has also led outreach tours to Northern Ireland, Alaska, and other regions.
Outside academia, Dr. Camp is an active member of the 12th Street Church of Christ in Shallowater, where he contributes to worship leadership, education, and missions. His personal interests include photography, snow skiing, swimming, and bicycling. He is married to Dr. Tammy Camp, and they have two children who are LCU alumni.
